All systems go at One Coburg Quarter
Work has commenced on one of Melbourne’s most significant regeneration sites, with developer Future Estate awarding the $76 million building contract for One Coburg Quarter to Verve Constructions.
The appointment comes as Future Estate announces construction will begin on its first residential building within the grounds of the former Pentridge Prison in a matter of weeks. With over 30 years’ of experience in the construction and property development industry, Verve Constructions is one of the industry’s most sought after builders.
“This is the first step in a comprehensive and exciting plan to revitalise a unique part of Melbourne’s urban fabric and we are confident in Verve Constructions’ ability to bring our ambitious vision to life,” said Future Estate Founder & Managing Director, Ben Anderson.
“It’s a milestone we’ve all been looking forward to and one I am excited to confirm will occur in June, when we will officially break ground and kick off construction at Coburg Quarter.”
Forming a gateway to the wider precinct, One Coburg Quarter will herald the beginning of a new era for the northern village. Among the team of experts Future Estate has partnered with to deliver this monumental project, is award-winning practice Rothelowman, which having redesigned the overall masterplan, is also responsible for the design of One Coburg Quarter.
“One Coburg Quarter is set to be a building of great significance,” said Rothelowman Director, Shane Rothe.
“Inspired by the historic context, heritage elements and surrounding bluestone, we sought to create a carefully considered, contextual and confident piece of pure architecture that is both respectful and contemporary.”
“Subtle and beautifully crafted interventions are stitched into the existing walls, bringing clear legibility to both the old and the new.”
“With communal and garden spaces on the ground level and a series of contemporary apartments above, this is a building designed for modern life,” said Rothe.
Looking ahead, Future Estate is conscious of delivering a variety of housing typologies that are tailored to suit the local home-buyer market.
“Our future residential offerings will include architecturally designed low-rise townhouses and apartment buildings that focus on larger-than-average internal spaces with a dedication to luxury amenity and architectural excellence,” said Anderson.
“One Coburg Quarter is just the beginning – soon this precinct will be a thriving community in its own right with world-class residential offerings, a rich tapestry of retailers and reinvigorated public spaces combining to form a northern epicentre.”
